A herd of elephants on Monday damaged a boundary wall at Sheetla Vihar colony in Missirpur village of Haridwar district. Local residents also reported elephants intruding into nearby Shiv Vihar over the past few weeks. At Shiv Vihar colony in Pathri, a herd of three elephants were captured in CCTV footage installed at the houses of local residents, after which the forest department deployed a patrolling team in the vicinity.
Residents have said that, since Sunday, they have been spotting elephants in the colony and as a precautionary measure, they are not venturing out alone at dawn and after dusk. "We are trying our best to stop and rein the elephants, with patrolling teams carrying out vigil for extended hours," said Haridwar forest Ranger Shailendra Singh Negi.
