HARIDWAR: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that no demolition drive will be carried out for the time being for the Ganga Corridor project in Haridwar, thereby allaying fears of traders, priests, hoteliers, local residents and stakeholders, five-time Haridwar MLA and former urban development minister Madan Kaushik said on Tuesday.
The CM held a meeting with Kaushik at the former's residence in Dehradun on Sunday evening.
The corridor project aims to provide better amenities, river-front development, safe entry-exit points for devotees, open spaces and parking lots. Kankhal and Satikund Shaktipeeth areas have also been included in the proposed corridor.
The CM assured the legislator that the proposed project does not include demolition of the existing buildings and structures that come under the Ganga corridor. The focus is on open spaces and crowd management, he added.
