JAIPUR: The driver of an LPG tanker involved in Friday's devastating explosion that killed 13 people appeared before police for questioning on Monday, confirming investigators' suspicions that he had survived the blast and fled to Uttar Pradesh and contradicting earlier assumptions that he had perished in the inferno.
Jaiveer, 40, a resident of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, presented himself at Bhankrota police station after both police and his employer made contact with him late Sunday night. His appearance ended speculation about his fate in the disaster that engulfed 34 vehicles in flames on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway.
"We cannot share any further details about his background until the interrogation is over," said deputy commissioner of police Amit Budaniya, who heads the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The officer noted that Jaiveer was among nine drivers present at Friday's accident who managed to escape.
