DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand police will focus to make the state drug-free by the end of this year under the "Drug-Free Uttarakhand Mission 2025", officers aware of the matter said on Thursday.
Police added that they are on the right track to achieve the target and crackdown on drug mafia will be further intensified.
"We are on the right track to make Uttarakhand drug-free by the end of this year. We have initiated a month-long campaign against sale and use of drugs. We are focusing on two areas, first enforcement, by striking down at the supply chain and people who deal in commercial quantities, and second, we are running awareness campaigns at the district level in schools and colleges," said additional director general of police, law and order, V Murugesan.
"We will make sure changes come on ground, and the campaign doesn't remain on paper," Murugesan added.
Inspector general of police, law and order, Nilesh Anand Bharne said, "We have made a significant process to achieve our mission of drug-free state by 2025. Though we made several achievements in 2024, we have a long way to go."
He added, "It is undoubtedly a big challenge for us. The war against drugs will be one of the utmost priorities of the state in 2025. We have made a detailed plan and regularly reviewed the progress of the campaign."
