Patra's press conference came in response to one by Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in the wake of revelations by the US justice department of an investigation against Adani and some of his companies. The department alleged that officials in two states (0disha and Andhra Pradesh) signed off on a higher charge for power in a power purchase agreement, in return for a bribe from the Adani Group, whose company was generating the power. It further alleged that officials in two more states (Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu) and one UT (Jammu & Kashmir) may have also done so.
