Police said Manoj Chaudhary, the victim, was having lunch in his chambers at around 2pm when two masked men entered, and one of them shot him in the head from close range. Investigators said that a document writer witnessed the murder, but said that he was unable to identify either of the suspects.
Officers said that the police were informed about the killing at around 2.15pm.
"We roped in several teams to trace the suspects and scanned footage from CCTV cameras in the tehsil compound for leads. The wife of the victim, Kavita Chaudhary, gave us a complaint naming five of her relatives as suspects. According to her, a family dispute was the motive for the killing," said Nipun Agarwal, deputy commissioner of police (City).
