The oil ministry announced the hike on Friday, setting the new price at 56.28 per litre, up from the previous season's 49.41. The aim is to boost ethanol production for blending with petrol. Ethanol blending capacity reached nearly 12% in 2022-23 ethanol supply year in India (which started in November), with the government targeting 20% blending by 2025.
India is among the world's largest importers of crude oil.
