Poverty reduced, income rose after '14: PM at MP rozgar mela

The average income of Indians increased from ₹4 lakh to ₹13 lakh after 2014, and people are now moving from the lower income group to the upper-income group, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.

Modi also said that data suggested that an increasing number of people are paying taxes, which further shows their trust that the government is putting their money to good use. Citing a Niti Aayog report, he said 135 million Indians came out of below poverty line in five years.

Modi made the statements while virtually addressing a Rozgar Mela, during which he distributed 5,580 appointment letters to primary school teachers in Madhya Pradesh.

"When decisions are taken with a positive attitude, right intention and full integrity, the whole environment is filled with positivity. Two positive news surfaced in the first year of Amrit Kaal - decreasing poverty and increasing prosperity in the country," Modi said.
