Punjab announces new timings for govt offices in summer to 'ease electricity load'

All government offices in Punjab will operate from 7:30am to 2pm between May 2 and July 15, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Saturday, asserting that the change in timings will ensure higher efficiency and ease the load on electricity.

At present, the office timings of the state government departments are 9 am to 5 pm.

"Our government runs on new ideas, new thought processes and new blood. Keeping that in mind we have decided to change the government working hours from 7:30 am till 2 pm. This will be implemented from May 2 till July 15," Mann said in a video message, adding: "I will also reach my office at 7.30 am."

The new office timing will remain in force till 15 July, he said.
