LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) announced an alliance for the Lok Sabha polls on Friday, saying that the former will allot seven seats for the latter in western Uttar Pradesh.
This is the first seat-sharing pact struck in India's most populous state among members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).
A formal announcement came hours after SP chief Akhilesh Yadav met his RLD counterpart Jayant Chaudhary at the former's Lucknow residence on Friday morning. The parties did not name the seats yet but people aware of developments said they were all in western UP.
