At some point on that Sunday outing, from his pocket emerged his Samsung Galaxy S23 phone, bought in March for ₹95,000, to take a commemorative selfie. Misfortune struck, the phone slipped, and fell into the reservoir. And that should have been it phones encounter such misfortunes all the time; except,Vishwas was no ordinary phone owner.
Over the next four days, in an egregious overreach of power, Vishwas oversaw 2.1 million litres of water being pumped out of the reservoir, meant for irrigation to villages nearby, to retrieve his submerged phone, all with the permission of the sub-divisional officer. On Friday, Vishwas was suspended by the Chhattisgarh government, and the sub-divisional officer RC Dhivar, has been issued a show cause notice.
