Garda figures reveal for the first seven months of this year, numbers are up on 2020 and 2021 but are less than 2019 and slightly fewer than last year.
However, they do show an increase in assault and obstruction against gardai.
The Garda statistics reveal there have been less reported assaults in public this year than the same period last year.
The figures, which run from January to the end of July, show there have been 2,353 assaults across the Dublin Metropolitan Region.&nbsp;That is 76 fewer than the same period last year.
The figures also state a spike in assaults in public places over the past three years but gardai say they should be viewed in the context of the pandemic.
For instance there were 1,909 assaults for the same period in 2020, and 1,868 in 2021.
A Garda spokesman said: "Covid-19 public health measures had a significant effect on crime, with most types of crime reporting reductions during the period."
