Government wins its confidence motion

THE Government won a confidence motion yesterday during a fiery debate branded a "disgrace" by Ceann Comhairle.

There was shouting across the Dail chamber between the Government and opposition parties.

Several warnings were given to TDs to sit down and stop heckling.

The Government won the vote by 86 votes to 67 after securing the backing of Independents.

The motion of confidence was tabled by the Coalition following a decision by the Labour Party to table its own motion which was prompted by the decision to end the winter eviction ban from tomorrow.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar accused Labour of "political theatre, performative anger and performance art".
