TWO survivors of a car crash that killed their three friends were stuck with them in the wreckage for 46 hours, police have confirmed.
Sophie Russon, 20, and Shane Loughlin, 32, remained critically ill in hospital yesterday.
Pals Eve Smith and Darcy Ross, both 21, and Rafel Jeanne, 24, died when their VW Tiguan crashed into trees in the early hours of Saturday.
Worried friends and relatives made repeated calls to police to report them missing after they failed to return home.
But the wrecked vehicle was only found at 12.15am on Monday next to the A48 slip road in St Mellons, Cardiff, by volunteers who helped in the search.
The police watchdog is now urgently probing the handling of the investigation by Gwent Police and South Wales Police.
Rafel's sister, Ffion Actie, was disappointed the car was not found sooner.
