TIPP legend Brendan Cummins insists 'goal a game' Seamus Callanan had the mark of greatness about him.

Three-time All-Ireland winner Callanan announced his county retirement yesterday after a 16-year senior career in the Premier panel.

He skippered Tipp to the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2019 after being an impact sub in 2010 and a starter at full forward in the 2016 All-Ireland final when he hit an outrageous nine points from play.

The Drom and Inch man, who turns 35 next week, won four All-Stars and was Hurler of the Year in 2019.

Callanan's 40 Championship goals is the sixth highest of all time and marks him out as the greatest modern day goalscorer in hurling, according to Cummins (above).

He said: "Sure he's goal a game kind of stuff. He was consistently scoring and all kinds of goals.

"Seamy is in that category of player that when the ball goes near him and into his hand, everyone stands up because they know something is going to happen - and something massive.
