Detectives are probing the circumstances surrounding the shooting at Corrstown Golf Club in&nbsp; North Dublin. A man in his 40s was wounded at around 11pm on Monday and rushed to the Mater Hospital in the capital but has non-life-threatening injuries.
The Armed Support Unit rushed to the scene after the panic caused by the incident. Investigators believe a number of men were hunting near&nbsp;the golf club at the time. Another group were out on the course in wetsuits looking for lost golf balls in the lake. Detectives suspect that one of the hunters shot at what he thought was an animal.
The firearm is legally held and the incident is not linked to criminality.
A source said: "This appears to be&nbsp;an unfortunate incident. The man who was injured is doing OK in hospital thankfully."
The man who discharged the gun is assisting investigators at Swords Garda station who are leading the probe. A spokesman said: "Gardai are making enquiries into the discharge of a firearm on Monday."
