Green army glory

TENS of thousands of hurling fans thronged the streets around Croke Park yesterday but it was the Limerick green army who left triumphant from the home of the GAA.

Despite the appalling weather supporters were in jubilant form before the clash which saw The Shannonsiders come from behind to dash Kilkenny’s hopes of another All-Ireland title.

An unbelievable second half performance and deserved win saw the Treaty County take their place in the record books with a fourth consecutive championship triumph.

Kilkenny lifted the Liam McCarthy Cup 36 times but the Cats fans went into the match apprehensive and this foreboding proved well founded.
