The RTE comedy drama stars Dunford as Jack and centres on Shiv (Roisin Gallagher), a returning emigrant who is back in Ireland from London, recently sober and taking it one day at a time.

Moe said he felt a sense of pride working on the show after his father Michael said The Dry was an honest representation of the addiction on our screens.

Moe revealed: "He was in the Armed Forces and then he did a myriad of jobs, he ran a pub for a while, then the pub went down the Swanee.

"He's an alcoholic. He turned his life around and went to Trinity to be a psychologist and a counsellor to work in prisons and addiction centres. He said that when he watched episode one, two and three, he said Janet Moran's character... it's one of the first shows I've seen that shows the idea of AA and how it works and asking yourself difficult questions and how alcoholism differentiates in class. I felt a sense of pride."
