James McManus has spent the past six weeks in Nepal, battling blizzards and 100kph winds ahead of his final push today to the summit of Dhaulagiri.
Despite being 700 metres short of Everest's peak, avalanche-prone Dhaulagiri has a far higher fatality rate.
Before setting off on the final part of his climb, James, 40, from Roscrea, Co Tipperary, said: "This is for sure the toughest expedition I've ever undertaken.
"The weather has been just crazy."
