THE Latino supreme team is back as Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas reunite for the latest Puss in Boots adventure and Salma is relieved this time around there are no sex scenes to navigate.
They are together again for the latest Shrek spin-off, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Antonio voices the sword-wielding feline hero while Salma is his tough-talking love interest Kitty Softpaws.
The pair have been pals since they worked together on Desperado, Salma’s breakout movie, in 1995. He helped her through her first screen test when they had to film a sex scene.
She said: “I was new in Hollywood and had no idea there was going to be a problem with my accent until I arrived. It wasn’t an easy road.
“But I was very lucky that my first screen test that I ever did was with Antonio who, at the time, was at a completely different place to me.
“He was already very famous and loved and accepted all over the world. He was very supportive and very confident and that gave me hope.
“People would still say things about our accents but he didn’t care. It didn’t stop him so it was really healthy for me to be around him. He gave me a lot of strength.”
When Salma was cast opposite him in the modern Western, she wasn’t expecting a sex scene. The star, now 56, burst into tears on the day they were due to shoot.
However, he was “an absolute gentleman”, they got it somehow and the film was a huge hit.
