Ali Ahmed Aslam, 77, invented the dish during the 70s after one customer complained about the dryness of his meat.
Mr Ali, who opened his Shish Mahal restaurant in 1964 in Glasgow, then created a sauce with spices and Heinz tomato soup.
He died on Monday.
Announcing the news, staff said: "We are all absolutely devastated and heartbroken."
Customers paid tribute to Mr Ali. One said: "My very first proper curry experience, 1972."&nbsp;
Another wrote: "So sorry for your loss. A legend." His funeral took place on Tuesday at Glasgow Central Mosque.
