SWEETENER IN DIET COKE 'CANCER RISK'

ARTIFICIAL sweeteners used in diet fizzy drinks are expected to be declared a potential cancer risk.

Aspartame, used in drinks such as Diet Coke, Coke Zero and Pepsi Max since the 1980s, will reportedly be listed as "possibly carcinogenic to humans" by the World Health Organisation.

The controversial move is expected to be confirmed next month following a review by the WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer.
