A QUARTER of Irish people admit to toning down their accent because voice-activated devices like Alexa can’t understand them.

A study found 72% of the population use voice assistants during the course of their day but with varying success.

Some 46% of Kerry folk, 44% of Westmeath locals and 40% of those in Mayo and Sligo confessed to modifying their pronunciation so the machine could comprehend them.
