RTE has assured that the iconic owl will return for the opening credits of The Late Late Show next Friday night.
Viewers were left dismayed when the first episode of the new season aired with the glaring omission of the show&rsquo;s mascot.
The owl motif has been used by the world&rsquo;s longest running chat show since its inception in 1962 with host Gay Byrne. But on Friday presenter Ryan Tubridy was joined by a live band and dancers outside the RTE studios in Donnybrook to kick off the new season.
Twitter exploded after viewers realised the owl had been ditched &ndash; and many made their thoughts known on the social media platform.
One asked: &ldquo;Why does it have to start in such a cringey way?&rdquo; while another wrote &ldquo;Ah, where is the owl?&rdquo;
A third was less subtle, posting: &ldquo;WHERE THE F*** IS THE OWL?&rdquo;
A spokeswoman for RTE yesterday assured that the show&rsquo;s feathered friend would return to its rightful slot in the intro next week.
She told the Irish Sunday Mirror: &ldquo;The owl will be back next week. Last night&rsquo;s opening was just for the first show back.&rdquo;
