MUIREANN DEVANEY says Athlone Town will silence the critics in the FAI Women’s Cup final.

In a breakthrough season, the Midlanders finished a close second to today’s opponents Shelbourne in the WNL and are into their first blue riband decider.

Despite their remarkable transformation into serious contenders, Devaney points to the criticism of their playing style that she insists is outdated.

“It was very disappointing not to win the league but we did our part, we did all we could,” the midfielder said.

Athlone needed Shels to draw in Wexford last weekend to set up a title play-off but instead the Reds won 4-0.
