FORMER Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has described Roy Keane as "probably one of the best players of all time".
The pair had very public spats at two separate World Cups but McCarthy is keen to put it in the past.
He said firebrand midfielder Keane was difficult to manage as a player but he praised the ex-Manchester United ace's brilliance on the pitch.
Asked on Virgin Media's Sports Stories if there was always an edge between himself and the Cork player, he insisted their spats were ancient history.
McCarthy said: "I've heard so many versions of it. I'm not going to add to it today. I think people are tired of it I've had enough of it."

The pair famously clashed as Republic of Ireland team-mates at the USA World Cup in 1994 after Keane showed up late after a drinking session.
And things soured even further in Saipan when Keane was sent home from the 2002 World Cup after the pair had a bust-up.
Reflecting on their relationship, McCarthy said: "There's no doubt I put a lot of time into that [managing Roy Keane as a player].
"What I will say about him, he's one of the best players I've ever played with, or managed.
"You know sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't."
