A NUMBER of Greater Manchester pubs and taprooms have been added to the 2025 edition of the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide, which was released this week.
Across the region there are 29 new entries to the guide, including watering holes in Stockport, Tameside, Bury, Salford, Bolton and Wigan.
The Good Beer Guide includes reviews of more than 4,500 pubs across the UK compiled by thousands of independent volunteers, with 903 newly featured pubs across the UK. The latest edition is the 52nd and features two alternate covers - one of Coronation Street’s Rovers Return Inn and one of Emmerdale’s Woolpack.
The guide has become a much-loved resource for beer lovers who regard it as a barometer of the local beer scene.
And while this year’s listings are to be celebrated, CAMRA has also issued a warning over the tough conditions still facing publicans, with over a thousand businesses shuttered in the last 12 months alone.
The foreword of The Good Beer Guide 2025 has been written by multi award-winning Iain Macleod, ITV’s executive producer for continuing drama. MacLeod writes: “The story which threatened one of our pubs the most was also the one which most resonated with our times.
