Thomas Fielding struck at a property in Salford. Fielding's blood was discovered after the 39-year-old smashed his way into the terrace house.
Manchester Crown Court heard that the property, in Swinton, had previously been the home of a man who had died about two months prior to the break-in.
Nobody was living there at the time, in August, while a property management firm planned on renovating the two bedroom home before a new tenant moved in.
