MANCHESTER hopes to become the first-ever European Capital of Cycling in 2024, council bosses have announced.
The authority has submitted a bid to ACES Europe, which it says is ‘the culmination of years of work’ that includes ‘a hugely ambitious expansion of cycling in both Manchester as well as the entire Greater Manchester region’.
Council chiefs also hope the bid will put the city ‘ in an even better position to bid for future funding’.
Later this month, a delegation from ACES will visit the city, in what is shaping up to be a pedal-powered September.
