In order to bring pollution levels down, town hall chiefs need to slow vehicles down to 'a maximum 10mph flow on local roads feeding into A34 Quay Street, according to a new Manchester council document.
But motorists in and around Quay Street will not be subject to a 10mph speed limit as the authority does not have the power to do so. Instead, other measures to put the brakes on will be looked at - like speed bumps and single-lane filters to discourage motorists driving through town, the Local Democracy Reporting Service understands.
