Grieving dad killed by 93mph speeding driver

A GRIEVING dad was killed by a driver travelling at 'extraordinary speed a year after his wife died after losing her cancer battle. Dad Jonathan Langston, 52, was crossing the road following a night out with friends when Adeel Safdar ploughed into him.

Safdar, 28, who worked in sales, had reached 93mph shortly before the collision, on Wilbraham Road in Chorlton, south Manchester, where a 30mph speed limit is in force. Mr Langston's death came a year after his wife Helen passed away after suffering from cancer, Manchester Crown Court heard. Their funerals were held on the same date, a year apart.

His loved ones said Mr Langston was 'finally starting to come to terms' with his loss and was 'looking forward to the future' before his 'unnecessary and pointless' death.

Safdar, from Stretford, said he 'can't explain' why he drove his VW Golf that way, just after midnight on March 17 last year.

"You have in effect orphaned [his] children," Judge Nicholas Dean KC told Safdar, who had a clean licence, as he jailed him for eight years. "They have lost both their parents in the space of a year, at an age for them, where the impact on them could not be more derailing."
