A YOUNG mum says she fears for her baby son's health because their house is full of mould.
When Aaliyah Blyth and her one-year-old moved into a terraced home in north Manchester, it seemed perfect. The 21-year-old had been 'sofa surfing' before she secured the property as temporary accommodation.
Aaliyah says it was 'fine for about a week. She soon noticed a small patch of damp in her son's bedroom, believed to have been caused by a leak, which she reported. Four months on, her living room is now unusable.
Her walls are soaked, while two bedrooms are also affected by damp.
The building is no closer to being repaired.
"I don't want a new house," Aaliyah told the M.E.N. "I was homeless for two years. I want this to be a good home.
"I just want them to fix the problem. But it's getting worse. It was a tiny leak in my son's room, now it's turned into a massive problem." When the M.E.N. visited Aaliyah at her home last week, the walls inside the property were wet to the touch. The smell of damp, which Aaliyah says gives her headaches, was potent.
Aaliyah had to have a sofa taken away because it became caked in mould. She and her young son Derius have been avoiding using the room and sitting elsewhere in the house due to the conditions.
