THE new government has issued its first major update on Awaab's Law since the King's Speech.
Strict new timeframes to inspect and repair damp and mould in social housing will be introduced following the tragic death of twoyear-old Awaab Ishak, from Rochdale.
The toddler was harmed by prolonged exposure to mould at a social property his family were renting, prior to his death in December 2020.
A campaign pushed by the M.E.N, Shelter and change.org, with the family's blessing, led to Awaab's Law joining the statute books last year.
The previous government had run a consultation in early 2024 to establish the set timeframes for inspections and repairs - but the general election came before any further announcements were made. Now, as Labour has unveiled its latest plans to build more homes, the new government has issued an update on Awaab's Law.
