Kashif Khan, 39, sent various threatening messages to the woman before smashing up her flat in Ashton.
The messages were such that she left the family home, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
He then poured various substances over the walls and 'destroyed' her home.
Khan, of Salford, admitted criminal damage and sending malicious communications. He also pleaded guilty to a further offence of child cruelty.
The court heard that Khan had driven a car with a six-year-old in the passenger seat whilst he was over the drink-drive limit. The child cannot be identified for legal reasons.
