<p>The Environment Agency is investigating the &lsquo;potential pollution incident&rsquo; at Prestwich Clough, which is believed to have been caused by a sewage pipe being damaged during heavy rain. Footpaths have been closed and residents have been warned to avoid the area and keep dogs on leads.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Several trees were uprooted as a result of the landslide, United Utilities said. The incident happened on the same day a huge sinkhole opened up a short distance away in Heywood Road, Prestwich.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Our teams are on site to carry out the repairs, however this is going to be a complex job due to the difficult conditions caused by the loss of the embankment and several uprooted trees.&rdquo;</p>
