AFTER nearly four years in exile, thousands of Bury FC fans are preparing for a day many feared would never arrive.
The Shakers take on Glossop North End on Saturday in their first league game at Gigg Lane since they were kicked out of the Football League in August 2019. More than 4,000 tickets have already been sold for tomorrow's momentous fixture at the club's spiritual home.
For many supporters, it will be an emotional afternoon.
"I'm absolutely buzzing," said lifelong Bury fan Gareth Evans. "I've got my one true love back.
"I've got one tattoo on my body and it says Bury FC. I was devastated about what happened. I thought tomorrow was never going to happen but I always lived in hope."
Bury's expulsion devastated not only the club's 3,000 core fans, but the town as a whole. Amy Caufield, the landlady at The Staff of Life in nearby Manchester Road, said the pub had been 'a lot quieter' since.
