Tragic Antonia, 27 sat in road before vehicle killed her

A YOUNG woman died after being hit by a car while she was sat in the road, an inquest heard.

Beautician Antonia St Louis, 27, suffered 'unsurvivable injuries' after the crash on Manchester Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, in the early hours of November 28, 2020.

An inquest at South Manchester Coroners' Court heard Antonia and a friend were walking along the road near Snipe Retail Park around at 3.40am before they crossed. They stopped in the middle of the three lanes, with CCTV footage showing Antonia then sitting on the floor.

She was then hit by a Volkswagen Golf. No charges were brought against the male driver, who stayed on the unlit road to assist police.

Antonia died at the scene, the court heard.

Forensic collision reconstruction officer PC Paul Terry told the court the driver was travelling at around 40mph at the point of collision, and, due to the dark conditions at the time, did not have enough time to react. Pathologist Dr Charles Wilson said alcohol and cocaine were found in Antonia's system.
