In a significant display of India's growing maritime capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reaffirmed the nation's emergence as a major maritime power, highlighting its expanding role as a reliable and responsible global partner. His remarks came after the commissioning of three advanced naval platforms at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai—INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer—marking a historic moment as three warships were inducted into the Indian Navy simultaneously for the first time.
At the commissioning ceremony, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the country's strides in defence production, maritime security, and overall economic growth under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
He underscored the historical significance of commissioning these three warships, noting that this achievement represents the progress India has made in building indigenous naval capabilities.
"We should become a global partner in securing the seas from drugs, weapons, and terrorism and ensure that the waters remain safe and prosperous," said Modi.
“India’s growing naval strength is enhancing global confidence in the country,” he added.
