On Saturday, March 23, 2024, the Finley Recreation Center in Mt. Airy held a special Women's History Month program organized by its Advisory Council to celebrate and honor exceptional women making a difference in the community.
The event was highlighted by a heartfelt tribute to The Honorable Marian B. Tasco, accompanied by the unveiling of a stunning mural created by renowned muralist Serena Saunders. The program was a testament to the invaluable contributions of women across various fields and sectors. It served as a platform to recognize and appreciate their efforts in shaping a brighter future for the community.
Hosted by Crystal Jacobs Shipman, President of the Advisory Council, the event commenced with a warm welcome that transitioned seamlessly to a poignant recitation of Alice Walker's evocative poem, delivered by the talented Piper Gross, a local youth. It featured a touching performance titled "Almost There" by another young participant, setting the stage for a series of compelling speeches focusing on themes of inclusion and forward-looking perspectives.
