That Girl Lay Lay hits Philly with concert

At the age of 11, she became the youngest female African American rapper to have a record deal with Empire Distribution, with her debut single "Go, Lay Lay, Go" and debut album, "Tha Cheat Code." After her debut single, Alaya signed a contract with Empire Records label. With guest appearances on "Wild n' Out" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Lay Lay became very popular. Her personality, along with her talent, landed her the lead role as Lay Lay in the Nickelodeon sitcom, "That Girl Lay Lay" in 2021.

"That Girl Lay Lay" is a live-action, multi-camera sitcom focused on Sadie, a freshman at East Packer High.

She is smart, passionate, and has a lot to say about the things she cares about. The only problem is that she doesn't quite know how to speak up. When Lay Lay, an avatar on her phone's "positive affirmation" app comes to life, she begins to teach Sadie how to take risks and say what's on her mind. The show has a positive message that will help guide kids in the right direction.

The program can be useful for talking with their children about self-esteem, confidence, bullying, being a follower and not a team leader, and more.

Her television series has become a fan favorite. She has also worked on a series of books with Scholastic Publishing. Local teens will have a chance to see Lay Lay in person on July 8, 7 pm at Miller Theater, 250 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, 19102.
