She was also promised a lavish life in the US, according to officials. During the investigation of the murder, police found that Dhankar befriended the victim on social media and lured him to the spot where he was shot by members of the Himanshu Bhau gang.

Dhankar was arrested from the India-Nepal border by Delhi Police's Special Cell as she was trying to cross the border. As per Delhi police officials, during the interrogation, Dhankar revealed that after the murder in Rajouri Garden, she went back to Mukherji Nagar PG and collected her belongings.

She subsequently boarded a bus at ISBT Kashmiri Gate and went to Chandigarh by bus and reached Katra via Amritsar. While she was in a guest house in Katra, Himanshu Bhau asked her to vacate the guest house immediately, and after this, she took a train to Jalandhar and further went to Haridwar by bus via Chandigarh.
