Navy joins Assam mining rescue with special gear

The mission is aimed at rescuing miners trapped in a coal mine collapse in the Dima Hasao district. This highly trained team includes Clearance Divers, experts in deep-water recovery, and operators skilled in utilizing ROVs for underwater exploration and recovery.

The Indian Navy's involvement follows the mobilization of a rescue team consisting of one officer and eleven sailors. Their expertise has been sought to enhance ongoing efforts by multiple agencies. The Navy's presence is expected to bolster the joint operation, which includes personnel from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). This collaborative effort resumed early in the morning on January 7, focusing on the coal mine located in the 3 Kilo area of Umrangso, where nine miners were trapped on January 6.
