Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Chandrababu Naidu was inaugurated as Andhra Pradesh's 18th chief minister on Wednesday, following his party's sweeping victory in both the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several top BJP leaders including Amit Shah and J.P. Nadda, attended the ceremony of this significant alliance partner, whose 16 MPs constitute a substantial portion of the central National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
For the first time since 2014, the BJP failed to secure a majority on its own, falling 32 seats short of the coveted 272 mark.
Following his oath-taking, Naidu was seen embracing Modi and receiving congratulations from other leaders. The ceremony, held at Kesarpalli IT Park in Gannavaram Mandal on the outskirts of Vijayawada, also saw other cabinet members taking their oaths.
Naidu has emerged as a prominent figure within the NDA after leading the TDPBJP-JanaSena coalition to a resounding victory in the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state. The coalition secured 164 out of 175 assembly seats and 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats.
