British author Harlan Coban's books are usually a great read. To date, Netflix have done a reasonable job at adapting and producing the author's body of work for television. The streamer and Coban had a 14-book deal that was sealed in 2018, and Missing You is the 10th installment of the agreement.
The limited series was released on New Year's Day, and has proven almost as popular as Squid Game 2 on Netflix's audience chart. However, despite it being based on the 2014 novel and the plot being vintage Coban, the show could have comprised four episodes, instead of five.
That is because there is a lot of repetition and time wasting early on. Misplaced reflective pauses also irritate from the get-go, but thankfully become a better fit in the flow later.
The show is set in Manchester with police detective Kat Donavon, played by Rosalind Eleazar, who gets dunked in a triple mystery. First, she starts wondering about her ex-boyfriend, who upped and left her 11 years before, never to be heard from again.
