Story of 'Modimo wa bolo' must be told
The Citizen|November 23, 2024
There's a dark cloud hanging over South African football following the passing away of football legend Lucas "Masterpieces" Moripe.
Katlego Modiba

The word legend is loosely used in modern football but according to stories I've heard, it sounds like Moripe was not just any ordinary football player.

So gifted was Moripe that during his playing days he was nicknamed "Modimo wa bolo," which means "God of football," when loosely translated from Setswana to English. That nickname alone deserves to be turned into a biopic about his life.

There's no doubt that the great Moripe definitely got his flowers while he could still smell them. The fact that the Super Stadium in Atteridgeville was renamed in his honour is testament to how highly-appreciated the football icon was.
