Tambo's prophetic words play out

The former and longest-serving ANC president Oliver Reginald Tambo, delivering one of the ANC's January 8th statements, once said: "The ANC will not be destroyed by external forces; it will only destroy itself from within."

It's a quote most often recalled in moments of internal turbulence within our movement. His warning was clear: the ANC's strength lies in its unity and moral standing, and any deviation from these principles will lead to its demise.

Today, Tambo's words are materialising in the political quagmire engulfing the movement. Factionalism and character assassinations have created deep divisions, turning comrades into adversaries and reduced internal debates to hostile contests.
