A demolition squad of the Nagar Nigam, assisted by the officials of the district administration and the police, removed the handcarts from the intersection at Sadar Bazar to Hanuman intersection.
The shopkeepers said if the handcart pullers were not removed, they would launch an agitation.
Because the situation was tense, the police advised the district administration to remove encroachments in the market.
