Hon'ble MPs let down makers of Constitution
The Free Press Journal - Bhopal|December 23, 2024
People expect maturity from their representatives—not pushing and shoving like obstreperous children fighting over candy

If large sections of Indians heaved a sigh of relief at the conclusion of the winter session of Parliament, they can hardly be faulted. Supposedly honourable members often behaved worse than delinquent schoolchildren. Considering that the session included a two-day debate on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, they ought to have upheld the memory of the Founding Fathers instead of turning the sanctum sanctorum of democracy into a chaotic fish market.

People expect maturity from their representatives—not pushing and shoving like obstreperous children fighting over candy. Yet, at the session's close, decorum reached a new low. Two ruling party members alleged that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, pushed them, leading to one requiring stitches and the other sustaining surface injuries necessitating hospitalisation. Whether Gandhi acted aggressively because BJP members blocked entry to Parliament will be clarified through a police inquiry. A complaint has been filed, and Gandhi has reportedly been called to assist the probe.
