Street Food Vendors Now on GST Radar
The Free Press Journal - Bhopal|January 04, 2025
Street vendors have become the latest targets of GST demand notices for crossing the Rs40 lakh threshold in business transactions.
Dharmesh Thakkar

Last month, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department summoned a popular pani puri street vendor in Tamil Nadu for making over Rs 40 lakh in annual sales, after the payments were reported by online payment aggregators and gateways RazorPay and PhonePe.

GST registration is mandatory for businesses and trades with an annual turnover exceeding Rs40 lakh.

Earlier, a street vendor selling steaming spicy kachori in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, was raided by GST for making Rs60 lakh annually and evading taxes.
