Thane: An officer and two constables of the MIDC police station were injured after some members of the notorious Irani gang, including women, hurled stones at a team of security personnel in Thane district, officials said on Thursday. The officers who suffered injuries are assistant police inspector Yaswant Palwe and two constables Hanumant Pujari and Sunil Lokhande.
The incident took place on Wednesday night in Ambivli, around 30km from Thane city, following which police registered a case against around 35 persons and detained four of them, they said.
A team from the MIDC police station had gone to Ambivli to apprehend a suspect involved in a criminal case. They took him into custody, but he managed to escape after the stone pelting, the police said.
